Mark Rothko, Untitled, 1951, Oil on canvas.
This new scan I did from the Guggenheim catalog presents an increasingly common problem when compared to that from the Anfram catalog here. We’re getting predominantly green here and predominantly blue there. This is not the first Blue/green confusion we’ve had in trying to represent Rothko accurately. I’d love to just replace the old scan but don’t comfortable until we find out the solution to this blue-green mystery. Either way, it’s a stunning Rothko that you rarely see and we’re lucky to have such good versions to entertain and illuminate us.
